MSC Seaside WiFi Review (2026): Is MSC Internet Worth It?
IMPORTANT: Buy Before the Cruise
This is critical.
MSC heavily discounts internet packages if you buy them before boarding.
MSC often advertises savings of around 20% when internet packages are purchased before the cruise.
So if you know you need internet:
buy it before the cruise.

MSC Wi-Fi Packages Explained
MSC currently offers two primary internet options onboard.
Browse Package
The Browse package is designed for everyday internet use and is the option we personally purchased during our MSC Seaside sailing.
Good for:
- Social media
- General web browsing
- Music streaming
Not ideal for:
- Netflix
- YouTube
- Video streaming
- Large uploads
Browse & Stream Package
This upgraded package includes everything in Browse, but is designed for guests who want a more complete internet experience.
Good for:
- Video streaming
- Video calls
- Uploading photos and videos
- Heavier internet use
If staying connected is your priority and you regularly stream content at home, this is likely the better option.

While you’re planning ahead, it’s also worth checking whether MSC’s drink package makes sense for your sailing.
Our Personal Experience with MSC Browse Wi-Fi
We personally used the basic Browse package.
And honestly?
It was surprisingly good.
The internet was fast enough for:
- Social media
- Browsing
- Pandora music streaming
- Messaging
The biggest surprise?
My mom was actually able to make WhatsApp calls through the Browse package.
Now, MSC officially says video calls and streaming belong in the Browse & Stream package.
But in real-world use?
Our experience with WhatsApp calling on Browse was actually pretty decent.
That genuinely surprised me.
What Worked Well for Us
Excellent overall.
And for my mom, this basically determines whether cruise internet is “good” or “bad.”
She simply cannot disconnect.
Before internet existed onboard, honestly… I still don’t know what she did all week.
Now?
WhatsApp basically follows her everywhere.
And on MSC, it worked very well for us.
✅ Social Media Browsing
Facebook and Instagram browsing worked fine.
Scrolling, messaging, reading posts — no major issues.
Uploading lots of videos?
Different story.
But normal use worked well.
✅ Pandora Music Streaming
This was another surprise.
Pandora worked.
Not video.
Not Netflix.
But music streaming through Pandora actually worked reasonably well onboard.
That made a huge difference for me personally.
What Did NOT Work
❌ Netflix
Completely failed.
If you open Netflix on the Browse package, it basically just errors out.
Same idea with heavy streaming services.
So if you want movies onboard:
👉 download them before the cruise.
That’s the smartest move.
❌ Heavy Video Streaming
Browse is simply not meant for this.
YouTube, Netflix, Hulu — don’t expect reliable results.
That’s where Browse & Stream becomes necessary.
MSC vs Norwegian Wi-Fi
This is where MSC stood out to me the most.
Norwegian Cruise Line often includes internet packages based on minutes.
And honestly?
I absolutely hate that system.
What exactly do you do with 150 minutes?
If my mom spends all day messaging people on WhatsApp, that disappears incredibly fast.
If I stream music for a while?
Gone.
It creates this annoying feeling where you constantly monitor usage instead of simply enjoying the cruise.
MSC’s unlimited setup feels much more modern and practical.
And honestly?
It feels like much stronger value overall.
Especially considering MSC prices are usually lower than competitors to begin with.
Interestingly, this wasn’t our first positive experience with MSC internet. We also had a surprisingly good experience staying connected during our MSC Divina sailing, which you can read about in our full MSC Divina review.
Coverage Around the Ship
Overall coverage onboard was pretty solid.
Public areas worked well.
Cabin coverage was mostly good.
There were occasional drops here and there — especially around islands or during transitions — but nothing catastrophic.
Even around Ocean Cay, the connection was still somewhat usable.
Not perfect.
But much better than older cruise internet systems.
MSC says internet is available in cabins and public spaces throughout the ship.
Device Restrictions (Important)
This is the biggest MSC internet “gotcha.”
Once you activate the package on a device:
it locks to that device.
On our sailing, once we activated the package on a device, it remained tied to that device for the duration of the cruise. Back when I regularly traveled with a laptop, this would have been a much bigger issue for me. Be sure to verify the current policy before sailing, as internet package rules can change.
So:
- Phone = one device
- Laptop = separate device
This catches people off guard all the time.
Best Strategy for Cruise Internet
Honestly?
This is what I personally recommend now:
Onboard
Use:
- MSC Browse package
- Messaging
- Browsing
- Social media
In Port
When we’re in port, we often rely on local cellular data through an eSIM purchased before the cruise instead of cruise Wi-Fi. It’s faster and can save money if you need a stronger connection ashore. Another alternative is looking for local venues with free WiFi.
And honestly?
That’s probably the smartest setup today.
Is MSC Wi-Fi Worth It?
For us? Absolutely yes
Especially the Browse package.
The fact that:
- WhatsApp worked well
- social media worked
- Pandora worked
- browsing worked
- calls sometimes worked
…made it one of the better cruise internet experiences we’ve had relative to price.
No, it’s not home internet.
No, it’s not perfect.
But compared to what cruise internet used to be?
MSC’s internet was honestly impressive.
And compared to limited-minute systems on some competitors?
MSC’s unlimited Browse package simply makes much more sense for the way people actually use the internet today.
