Carnival Breeze Review: Is It Worth It? (The Ship That Changed My Opinion of Carnival)
This Carnival Breeze review is based on my sailing back in 2014, and it also marked something very different for me—it was my first time cruising solo.
Up until that point, cruising had always been something I shared with my mom, and that’s a big part of why I enjoy it so much. Going into this sailing, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel experiencing a cruise on my own. I was curious, but also a bit hesitant.
At the same time, I’ll admit something else openly: I had intentionally avoided Carnival Cruise Line.
Like many cruisers, I had read the reviews, heard the stereotypes, and formed a skeptical opinion without ever actually experiencing the product myself. I didn’t know what to expect.
And then Carnival Breeze completely surprised me.
Not only did I enjoy the ship—I genuinely loved it.
Between the incredible casual dining, nonstop activities, warm service, and overall fun atmosphere, this ended up being one of the best value-for-money cruise experiences I had taken at the time.
Is it the most elegant ship at sea? No.
Is every aspect perfect? Also no.
But Carnival Breeze knows exactly what it wants to be: a fun, energetic, highly accessible cruise packed with value.
And it executes that extremely well.
As for the solo experience? It worked—but I’ll be honest, I still prefer cruising with my mom. There’s something about sharing the experience that just makes it better, and I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to cruise solo again.

Food Review
Food Score: 8/10
Food aboard Carnival Breeze is one of the most interesting dining programs I’ve experienced at sea, ranging from average to truly excellent depending on where you eat.
Where Breeze absolutely dominates is lunch.
If you enjoy casual dining and sea days, this ship is hard to beat. The number of included options is impressive—Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, Cucina del Capitano, Ji Ji Asian Kitchen, barbecue stations, pizza, deli, Asian noodles, and more.
And most of it is included.
Not only is the variety strong, but the quality of many of these venues genuinely stands out.
Specialty dining was another major highlight. The steakhouse delivered one of the best steak-and-lobster meals I’ve had at sea, and the sushi venue impressed with fresh, well-prepared dishes like the tuna dip and shrimp tempura roll.
The Main Dining Room, however, was the weakest part of the food experience. It wasn’t bad, but it lacked consistency and didn’t match the level of the other dining options onboard.
Overall, the strength of casual dining and specialty restaurants carries this category to a very solid score.

Cabin Review
Cabin Score: 8/10
Cabins aboard Breeze prioritize function over style.
Visually, the décor feels fairly basic, and the bathrooms lack personality. I’m also not a fan of shower curtains compared to sliding doors, which feel cleaner and more modern.
The balcony doors are another drawback—they’re heavy, noisy, and difficult to keep open, especially for those who enjoy sleeping with fresh air.
But here’s where Breeze wins:
Space.
The cabins feel noticeably larger than many comparable ships, and that extra room makes a difference. Storage is also exceptional—arguably the most I’ve had on a cruise—with enough space for multiple people to unpack comfortably.
It may not be the most stylish cabin, but from a practical standpoint, it works extremely well.

Internet & Technology
Score: 7/10
Internet performance was surprisingly solid for the time. Connections were stable, speeds were decent, and basic tasks like checking email were quick and easy.
The TV system, however, felt inconsistent. While newer movies like Frozen and The Lego Movie were a nice touch, the programming schedule included too many inactive periods and repetitive channels.
More variety would significantly improve the experience.

Pools, Jacuzzis & Serenity Area
Score: 8/10
The pool setup is a mixed experience.
There simply aren’t enough pools for the number of passengers, and they do get crowded during peak times. Fortunately, I rarely use pools, so it didn’t impact me much.
The real highlight is the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat and the shaded jacuzzis along the Lanai.
The Serenity area is relaxing and well-designed, though it could benefit from more shaded areas. Breeze really shines with its jacuzzis—there are plenty of them, they’re spacious, and they stay open late, making it easy to find a place to unwind.

Activities & Atmosphere
Score: 10/10
This is where Carnival Breeze stands out.
The energy onboard is incredible.
There is always something happening—deck parties, trivia, comedy, live music, rope courses, water slides, game shows, and more. The ship feels alive from morning until late at night.
And more importantly, it feels genuine.
Out of all the cruises I had taken at that point, Breeze had one of the most consistently positive and fun atmospheres onboard.
This is not a quiet ship.
It’s a FUN ship.
And Carnival understands that perfectly.

Shows & Entertainment
Score: 8/10
This was one of the first cruises where I personally became invested in attending shows—and I’m glad I did.
Carnival’s entertainment was consistently enjoyable. The Hasbro Game Show stood out as particularly interactive and fun, and overall, the productions managed to do something many cruise lines struggle with:
Keep me engaged.
The only downside is that the stage design felt somewhat basic. A more advanced production setup could elevate the experience further.

Bars & Lounges
Score: 7/10
Bars and lounges onboard are solid but not particularly memorable.
There are plenty of options, service is fast, and drink quality is good. However, most venues feel similar, and there isn’t a standout “signature” bar that defines the ship.
The focus here is clearly on energy and accessibility rather than themed or upscale experiences.

Ship Design & Décor
Score: 7/10
This is one of Breeze’s weaker areas.
The design isn’t bad—it’s just average. While some spaces look good, the overall aesthetic lacks the polish and elegance found on ships from lines like Celebrity or MSC.
But that’s not really the point of this ship.
You don’t sail Carnival Breeze for luxury design—you sail it for value, energy, and fun.

Unique Features – Lanai, WaterWorks & Layout
Score: 8/10
Carnival made some smart design choices onboard.
Breaking up the buffet into multiple smaller stations significantly improves flow and reduces crowding. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference.
The Lanai is another standout, offering shaded jacuzzis and relaxing outdoor seating areas.
WaterWorks also adds a strong family-friendly element, even though I personally didn’t spend much time there.

Service
Service Score: 10/10
Service aboard Breeze was warm, friendly, and consistently positive.
The crew created an atmosphere that felt welcoming and relaxed, and interactions throughout the ship were genuinely enjoyable.
What stood out most was the attitude. There was an energy to the service that made the ship feel approachable and fun.
The only other cruise line that had given me a similar feeling at that point was Disney—and that’s high praise.
Final Verdict: Is Carnival Breeze Worth It?
Absolutely.
Carnival Breeze completely changed my perception of Carnival Cruise Line.
This ship delivers incredible value, with strong food options, nonstop activities, friendly service, and one of the most energetic atmospheres you’ll find at sea.
It’s not about luxury—it’s about fun.
And it delivers that exceptionally well.
Would I sail Breeze again?
Without hesitation.
Especially on a longer Southern Caribbean itinerary.
If you’ve been hesitant about Carnival due to stereotypes or online criticism, this is exactly the kind of ship that can change your perspective—just like it did for me.
