Disney Dream Review: Is It Worth It? (The Cruise That Completely Won Me Over)
After sailing aboard Disney Dream back in 2013, one thing became very clear: this was not just another cruise ship—it was a completely different kind of experience.
Going into this Disney Dream cruise review, I already had a solid understanding of cruising. I had sailed other lines, experienced larger ships, and thought I knew what to expect from a cruise vacation. Then I stepped onboard and realized Disney Cruise Line operates on an entirely different level when it comes to atmosphere, service, attention to detail, and emotional connection.
Even though this sailing was only three nights long, it became one of the most memorable cruises I’ve ever taken.
Disney somehow manages to combine the polished feel of a luxury resort with the energy and fun of a theme park, while still delivering one of the smoothest and most relaxing cruise experiences I’ve experienced to date. There is a certain “Disney magic” onboard that genuinely changes the atmosphere of the ship—and it’s something that’s hard to explain until you experience it yourself.
And yes, the price hurts.
But after experiencing the product firsthand, I finally understood why so many people are fiercely loyal to Disney Cruise Line.

Food Review
Food Score: 9/10
Food aboard Disney Dream was outstanding overall and easily among the best I had experienced at sea at the time.
The buffet alone deserves special recognition. To this day, it remains one of the best cruise buffets I’ve experienced. The variety was extensive, quality remained consistently high, and there were enough options to keep things interesting every day.
One thing became obvious very quickly: Disney does not let you go hungry.
Food is constantly available, and often very tempting. In fact, this was the first cruise where I actually gained weight despite usually having pretty good self-control.
Main Dining Room meals were also excellent, with several dishes rivaling specialty restaurants on other cruise lines. Even room service stood out, offering one of the strongest menus I had seen at sea, with items arriving fresh, flavorful, and well prepared.

Cabin Review
Cabin Score: 9/10
The stateroom aboard Disney Dream remains one of my favorite cruise cabins to this day.
Disney clearly put serious thought into functionality and comfort, especially for families. The split-bathroom design is a standout feature and makes a noticeable difference when sharing a cabin. The privacy curtain adds separation, storage feels above average, and even the safe is larger than what most cruise lines offer.
What impressed me most was how Disney balanced theming. The room felt unmistakably Disney, but never overdone or childish. It maintained a sense of elegance while still feeling fun.
The bed was extremely comfortable, although the pullout bed was noticeably weaker. My only real drawback is that the main bed could not be split into two twins—something that matters since I often travel with my mom.

Internet & Technology
Score: 9/10
The entertainment system in the cabin was exceptional.
The amount of complimentary on-demand movies was honestly excessive in the best way possible. On top of that, the ability to stream live theater productions directly into the stateroom was a brilliant feature—especially for relaxing nights or avoiding crowds.
Internet performance was also surprisingly strong for the time and easily among the best I had experienced during that period.

Pools, Jacuzzis & Adult Areas
Score: 9/10
Disney Dream features one of the best adult-only areas at sea.
Despite being a very family-focused cruise, the adult pool deck felt peaceful and well-designed. The jacuzzis extending over the side of the ship with glass bottoms were a standout feature, and the layout created a relaxing atmosphere overall.
This was actually one of the few cruises where I used both the pool and jacuzzis regularly.
The only downside is the lack of a covered solarium, which could be an issue in bad weather. The family pool areas, on the other hand, do get crowded—something to expect on any Disney cruise.

Activities for Adults
Score: 7/10
This is where Disney’s priorities are most visible.
At its core, this is a cruise line built around families. Adult activities exist, and I personally never felt bored, but compared to other lines like Royal Caribbean or Norwegian, the adult programming is lighter.
That said, I don’t need constant activity. Give me a quiet space, a jacuzzi, a drink, and a view of the ocean, and I’m perfectly content—and Disney Dream delivered that balance well.

Shows & Entertainment
Score: 9/10
Entertainment quality onboard is exceptional.
Even though I’m not usually big on theater shows, my mom absolutely loved them—and I could clearly see why. The production quality, costumes, music, and stage design were all significantly above industry standards.
Disney invests heavily in entertainment, and it shows.

Bars & Lounges
Score: 7/10
Bars were one of the few weaker areas for me.
Many felt enclosed and lacked ocean views, which made them less appealing compared to other ships. That said, Skyline Lounge and the adult pool bar stood out as enjoyable spaces.
Disney also doesn’t push a heavy drinking culture, which feels intentional. The atmosphere stays more relaxed and family-oriented rather than nightlife-driven.

Ship Decor & Atmosphere
Score: 10/10
This is where Disney Dream truly stands apart.
From the moment you step onboard, the attention to detail is extraordinary. The ship feels elegant, immersive, and thoughtfully designed without ever crossing into tacky or overwhelming.
At night, the atmosphere becomes even more impressive. Lighting, music, and overall ambiance create a setting that genuinely feels magical at times.
Walking this ship is an experience in itself.

Unique Features & Disney Theming
Score: 10/10
The standout feature isn’t one thing—it’s everything.
Disney doesn’t just operate a cruise ship. They create a fully immersive themed environment. From rotational dining and entertainment to the AquaDuck and kids clubs, every part of the ship feels intentional and connected.
Even simply exploring becomes part of the experience.

Service
Service Score: 10/10
This is where Disney separates itself from most of the industry.
Service onboard was phenomenal from start to finish. Crew members were consistently friendly, engaged, and genuinely invested in creating a positive experience.
Several crew members even mentioned that working for Disney was the best experience of their careers—and that shows.
One thing I noticed immediately was the lack of long Guest Services lines. Issues seemed rare, and when they did arise, they were handled quickly and professionally.
Disney sets the standard for service in mainstream cruising.

Final Verdict: Is Disney Dream Worth It?
Yes.
Painfully yes.
Because while Disney Dream is undeniably expensive, the level of polish, service, atmosphere, and overall experience justifies much of that cost—especially for families.
This is easily the most well-rounded cruise I’ve ever taken.
If you have kids and can afford it, this is the kind of vacation they will remember for the rest of their lives. And honestly, even as an adult, it leaves a lasting impression.
Disney Dream delivers something very few cruise lines can consistently achieve: a perfect balance between luxury, fun, and emotional connection.
After this sailing, Disney Cruise Line became my favorite cruise line.
Not because it was perfect.
But because no other cruise had made me feel the same way onboard.
And that feeling is what keeps people coming back.
