Disney Castaway Cay Cruise Port Guide: Beaches, Serenity Bay & What to Do
The Gold Standard of Cruise Line Private Islands
Some private islands are simply beach stops.
Disney Castaway Cay is an experience.
And honestly?
It may still be the single best private island experience I’ve ever had on a cruise.
Everything about Castaway Cay feels polished, immersive, relaxing, and unmistakably Disney from the moment you arrive. The level of detail, the organization, the service, the beaches, the transportation, the food—it all works together in a way that very few cruise lines can replicate.
Yes, Disney Cruise Line is expensive.
Very expensive.
And I fully understand why many people hesitate at those prices.
But after experiencing Castaway Cay firsthand, I also understand why families become completely obsessed with Disney cruises.
Because if you have children?
This is basically paradise for them.

Quick Verdict
Best for:
- Families with children
- Disney fans
- Adults wanting a peaceful beach escape
- Crystal-clear water lovers
- Relaxing beach days
- First-time cruisers
- Couples wanting a premium private island
Not ideal for:
- Nightlife seekers
- Party-focused travelers
- Budget cruisers
- Guests wanting large waterparks
Why Castaway Cay Feels Different
Disney doesn’t just build a beach.
They build an atmosphere.
Everywhere you walk, there are subtle Disney touches:
- Themed signage
- Hidden details
- Background music
- Landscaping that actually feels natural
And somehow, it never feels overwhelming.
That balance is very hard to pull off—and Disney nails it.
Serenity Bay (Adults-Only Beach): The Real Hidden Gem
This was one of the highlights of our entire visit.
Serenity Bay is Disney’s adults-only beach—and it completely changes the experience.
When we went:
- It felt nearly empty
- Loungers were spaced out
- The water was crystal clear
- The atmosphere was dead quiet
It genuinely felt like a private Caribbean beach.
👉 Pro tip: Take the tram straight here early. Most people never make it this far.

Family Beach Areas: Controlled Chaos (In a Good Way)
The family beach is exactly what you’d expect from Disney:
- Kids everywhere
- Splash zones
- Floating play areas
- Water slides
- Character-themed attractions
At one point, we walked through later in the day—and it was packed with families having an absolute blast.
And honestly?
That’s when it clicked.
If you have kids, this place is next-level.

Food on Castaway Cay (Included)
Disney runs multiple BBQ-style food locations across the island, including Cookies BBQ and Cookies Too.
You’ll find:
- Burgers & hot dogs
- BBQ chicken & ribs
- Salads & fruit
- Desserts
- Soft serve ice cream
- Plenty of kid-friendly options
The biggest surprise?
👉 How efficient everything is.
Even with crowds, lines moved fast and seating was easy to find.

Transportation (Better Than Most Ports)
Castaway Cay is bigger than it looks.
Disney runs constant tram service across the island:
- Ship → Family Beach
- Mid-island activities
- Serenity Bay
This is huge, especially for:
- Families with kids
- Guests with mobility concerns
- Anyone tired later in the day
And like everything Disney does—it runs smoothly.

The Airplane Wrecks (Yes, They’re Real)
One of the coolest details on Castaway Cay is the airplane wrecks in the snorkeling lagoon.
These are modeled after Douglas DC-3 aircraft, which were historically used in smuggling operations in the Caribbean decades ago.
Disney incorporated them into the island as:
- Snorkeling attractions
- Visual storytelling elements
Most people completely miss this detail—but it adds a surprisingly interesting layer to the experience.

Castaway Cay Prices (2026 Estimates)
Disney pricing changes often, but here are realistic current ranges:

Midday

Is Castaway Cay Worth It?
Absolutely.
Especially for families.
Even years later, this remains one of the most impressive private islands I’ve visited.
- The beaches were beautiful
- The adult area was incredible
- The family areas looked magical
- The food was excellent
- The service was top-tier
Would I personally pay Disney prices again without kids?
Probably not.
But with kids?
I wouldn’t hesitate.
Because Disney doesn’t just sell a cruise.
They sell memories.
And Castaway Cay is one of the best examples of that anywhere in cruising. But if you’re looking for a more complete island experience beyond a private resort setting, check out our Bermuda cruise guide to see what a full, non-private destination feels like.
