Celebrity Silhouette Review: Is it Worth it? (Why This Cruise Feels Different)

Celebrity Silhouette Review Introduction

There are cruise ships built around nonstop energy and constant activity.
Then there are ships designed around atmosphere, comfort, and refinement.

Celebrity Silhouette firmly belongs in the second category.

This cruise was taken back in 2013, and while some aspects of the onboard experience may have evolved since then, the overall impression of the has stayed with me.

After sailing aboard Silhouette, what stood out most was not one individual feature, but rather the overall feeling of the ship. The atmosphere onboard felt calm, polished, and sophisticated without ever becoming pretentious. Everything—from the décor and dining to the public spaces and service—carried a more upscale tone than most mainstream cruise lines.

At times, the ship honestly felt more like a floating boutique resort than a traditional cruise ship.

Now, this also means Silhouette will not appeal equally to everyone. Travelers looking for giant attractions, nonstop adrenaline, and high-energy entertainment may find the ship too relaxed.

But for cruisers looking for elegant surroundings, excellent food, beautiful public spaces, and a refined onboard experience, Celebrity delivers a very strong product here.

Would I sail Celebrity Silhouette again?
Absolutely—especially on a destination-focused itinerary like Europe or Alaska.

Quick Verdict

Overall Score: 77/100

Best for:

  • Couples
  • Adults seeking a quieter atmosphere
  • Food-focused travelers
  • Europe or Alaska itineraries
  • Relaxation-focused cruisers
  • Travelers wanting an upscale mainstream cruise experience

Not ideal for:

  • Families with younger children
  • Travelers wanting nonstop onboard activities
  • Cruisers seeking high-energy nightlife or attractions

Food Review – 9/10

Food aboard Celebrity Silhouette was excellent overall and one of the ship’s strongest categories.

The buffet especially impressed me. Variety was extensive, food quality remained consistently high, and most importantly, the food was always served hot. That may sound like a small detail, but it makes a major difference—and it’s something Silhouette handled extremely well throughout the cruise.

The Main Dining Room also delivered strong meals overall, though there were a few misses. The chicken saltimbocca, for example, was disappointingly dry. Still, these were exceptions rather than the norm.

The specialty restaurants are where Silhouette truly shines.

  • Murano was outstanding and delivered one of the best meals I’ve had at sea. The Dover Sole was phenomenal and perfectly prepared. Service here also felt elevated and polished.
  • Tuscan Grille was enjoyable overall, though my mother’s risotto was overly salty during one visit.
  • Qsine offered a creative experience, though not every dish landed. The cupcakes, in particular, were surprisingly underwhelming.

Even room service breakfast impressed me with consistently hot delivery—something many cruise lines still struggle with.

The only real downside is pricing. Specialty dining on Celebrity can become expensive quickly, and some venues feel slightly overpriced unless you purchase a dining package.

Cabin Review – 8/10

The stateroom felt modern, comfortable, and slightly more spacious than many balcony cabins I’ve experienced.

The bathroom was particularly well designed, with a larger-than-average shower and excellent overall functionality.

That said, storage felt a bit limited compared to what I expected. I also missed small conveniences like a balcony light, which I often use when working outside at night.

Still, the overall cabin experience was very comfortable, and Celebrity’s clean, modern design works very well here.

Technology & Internet – 5/10

This was one of the weaker aspects of the cruise.

The TV system felt outdated, buggy, and unintuitive. Information was limited, menus were harder to navigate, and the system occasionally lost signal.

The internet also struggled:

  • Inconsistent speeds
  • Frequent disconnections
  • Overall unreliable performance

Considering how polished the rest of the ship is, this is an area where Celebrity clearly lagged.

Pools, Jacuzzis & Solarium – 9/10

The pool areas were very well designed, especially the Solarium.

This quickly became one of my favorite spaces onboard.

  • Calm and quiet atmosphere
  • Covered design (great in bad weather)
  • Larger-than-expected pool
  • Surprisingly easy to find space

Despite initial concerns about limited jacuzzis, availability was rarely an issue.

This is an area where Celebrity clearly understands its audience. The Solarium perfectly reflects the ship’s relaxed, refined atmosphere.

Activities & Entertainment – 6/10

This is where Silhouette most clearly differs from larger mainstream ships.

The experience is intentionally more relaxed.

There are activities onboard—trivia, poolside events, sports—but the overall lineup feels relatively light compared to more activity-focused cruise lines.

Personally, I understood and appreciated what Celebrity was aiming for.

However, more active or younger cruisers may eventually find the pace too slow, especially on longer itineraries.

Shows & Live Music – 8/10

Entertainment was solid overall.

The production shows were well performed, and the comedy shows were a highlight.

The only weak point for me personally was the onboard a cappella group, which didn’t quite land.

Still, the overall entertainment quality remained professional and enjoyable, even if the ship prioritizes atmosphere over large-scale productions.

Bars & Lounges – 10/10

One of the strongest aspects of the entire ship.

The bar scene on Celebrity Silhouette is excellent.

  • Martini Bar – energetic, entertaining, and a true social hub
  • Sunset Bar – one of the most relaxing venues onboard, with beautiful ocean views and live music
  • Molecular Bar – unique, upscale, and different from typical cruise bars

Celebrity may not have the loudest nightlife, but it has one of the most polished bar experiences at sea.

Ship Décor & Elegance – 10/10

This is where Silhouette truly excels.

The entire ship feels:

  • Cohesive
  • Elegant
  • Modern
  • Immaculately maintained

The design honestly feels closer to a boutique luxury hotel than a traditional cruise ship.

Nothing feels overdone or tacky.
Everything flows naturally.

This is easily one of the most visually balanced ships I’ve sailed on.

The Lawn Club – 8/10

One of Celebrity’s most unique features.

Sitting on real grass at sea is undeniably special, and the open-air design creates a great connection with the ocean.

That said, the space could be utilized better. Repositioning cabanas toward the ocean, for example, could improve privacy and maximize views.

Still, it reinforces the ship’s relaxed, upscale identity.

Service – 9/10

Service was excellent throughout the cruise.

The crew felt polished, attentive, and professional. Specialty dining service—especially at Murano—stood out.

Aside from one slower dinner at Tuscan Grille, service was consistently strong.

More importantly, the ship maintained a calm, organized atmosphere, reinforcing the overall premium experience.

Final Verdict: Is Celebrity Silhouette Worth It?

Absolutely.

Celebrity Silhouette delivers one of the most elegant and relaxing mainstream cruise experiences available today.

This is not a ship designed for nonstop stimulation. Instead, it focuses on:

  • Atmosphere
  • Food quality
  • Design
  • Overall onboard experience

And for the right traveler, that approach works extremely well.

Personally, I think Silhouette is best suited for destination-focused itineraries like Europe or Alaska, where the onboard experience complements the destinations.

While I may not rush back immediately (I enjoy trying new ships), I would absolutely sail Silhouette again without hesitation.
