Norwegian Escape Review: Is It Worth It? (A Cruise That Became Personal)
There are cruises you remember because of the ship.
And then there are cruises you remember because of what happened during them.
This Norwegian Escape review is honestly both.
Before anything else, I want to be completely transparent—this sailing took place back in 2016. And like many of my cruises, this was another trip with my mom. But this one felt different from the start.
We celebrated her birthday.
We celebrated Mother’s Day.
And we shared the entire week with an incredible group of friends that made everything even better.
That combination changed the experience.
Because sometimes a cruise becomes memorable because of the ship… and sometimes because of the moments.
On Norwegian Escape, we got both.
And that’s what made this sailing stand out in a way I didn’t fully expect.

Food Review – 10/10
Food was one of the highlights of this entire cruise.
The Norwegian Escape delivers one of the most consistently strong dining experiences I’ve had at sea. Not just in quality, but in how enjoyable it felt throughout the week. There was enough variety to keep things interesting without feeling overwhelming, and more importantly, very few misses.
Some places just stood out immediately. Food Republic, Bayamo, Pinchos, and Le Bistro were all excellent and easy recommendations. Those are the kinds of meals you actually remember after the cruise ends.
Teppanyaki was fun more for the experience than the food itself, although the lobster didn’t quite live up to expectations. Cagney’s was interesting—it’s supposed to be the steakhouse, but the real standouts ended up being the lobster and lamb chops instead.
If there’s one gap, it’s the lack of quick grab-and-go options. A solid pizza place or casual café would make a big difference.
Still, overall, this was one of the best food experiences I’ve had on any cruise.

Cabin Review – 7/10
The cabin was comfortable—but definitely tight.
Compared to other ships, the space felt smaller than average, and that becomes noticeable over a full week. That said, it worked. Storage was good, the décor felt modern, and the bathroom was well designed with excellent water pressure.
One thing I did appreciate was the balcony. It actually felt larger than what I experienced on the Norwegian Breakaway, which made a difference since both my mom and I tend to spend a lot of time outside.
The biggest issue was noise. The walls felt thin, announcements carried into the room more than they should, and the balcony door created a constant door-slamming effect.
Not a dealbreaker—but definitely noticeable.

Internet & Technology – 5/10
This was easily one of the weakest parts of the cruise.
The Wi-Fi was expensive and underwhelming. Compared to ships like those from Royal Caribbean International, it simply didn’t deliver enough value for the price.
The TV system also felt outdated, with very limited content and mostly news channels.
If you like relaxing in your room at night, download your own content ahead of time.
The one thing they did well was functionality. Checking your account, booking shows, and making reservations through the TV was simple and efficient.

Pool Deck – 6/10
This is where the Norwegian Escape struggles the most.
The pool deck feels undersized for a ship carrying this many passengers. Two pools just aren’t enough, and the space becomes crowded quickly. Loungers are tightly packed, walking space is limited, and overall it feels more congested than it should.
The H2O adults-only area helps, but it also fills up fast and only offers limited jacuzzi space.
What really saves this experience is Vibe Beach Club.
If you can get access to Vibe, it completely changes your cruise. It becomes a much more relaxed, enjoyable environment.
Without it, this area can be frustrating.

Activities & Nightlife – 10/10
This is where the ship truly shines.
There’s always something happening.
During the day, you’ve got the ropes course, water slides, mini golf, and constant activities around the ship. But the real energy comes at night.
This ship comes alive after dark.
The District Brew House quickly became one of our favorite spots. Howl at the Moon was easily one of the most fun venues onboard. Comedy shows were consistently strong, karaoke stayed active late into the night, and the H2O area hosted great parties and movie nights.
You never feel like there’s nothing to do.
And that matters.

Shows & Entertainment – 9/10
I’ll be honest—my mom saw more shows than I did.
I was too busy enjoying everything else onboard.
But based on her feedback—and what I consistently heard from other passengers—the shows were excellent overall.
“After Midnight” seemed to be the only divisive one.
Everything else? Strong reviews across the board.
The farewell show, in particular, stood out. My mom said it was one of the best she’s ever seen at sea.
That says a lot.

Bars & Lounges – 9/10
This is another area where Norwegian Escape delivers.
There’s a wide variety of bars, each with a different feel, and the service was consistently fast. Even on a ship where many people have drink packages, I rarely waited more than a few minutes.
The District Brew House and the outdoor 5 O’Clock area became personal favorites.
And Vibe’s bar deserves credit too—it added to the overall experience significantly.

Ship Design – 10/10
The ship is beautiful.
It strikes a balance that not many ships manage—elegant without feeling stiff, modern without feeling cold.
Lighting plays a huge role, especially at night, and the artwork throughout the ship gives it personality.
It feels alive without feeling chaotic.
And that’s not easy to pull off.

The Waterfront – 9/10
This ended up being one of our favorite spaces onboard.
We kept coming back here—whether it was for a drink, dinner, or just sitting and watching the ocean.
It’s one of those areas that quietly becomes part of your routine.
What impressed me most is how comfortable it feels. It’s surprisingly well protected from the wind, and seating is plentiful.
If outdoor dining matters to you, though—book early.
Those spots go fast.

Service – 10/10
Service was outstanding.
And honestly, that surprised me.
My previous experience with Norwegian Cruise Line wasn’t nearly this strong, but this sailing completely changed my perception.
From dining to housekeeping, everything felt consistent, warm, and reliable.
Our room steward was excellent. Requests were handled quickly. Dining staff felt attentive without being overbearing.
No complaints here—and that says a lot.

Final Verdict: Is Norwegian Escape Worth It?
Yes—absolutely.
This Norwegian Escape review really comes down to balance.
It’s not perfect.
The pool deck is crowded.
The Wi-Fi is overpriced.
The TV system needs work.
But the strengths outweigh the weaknesses.
The food is excellent.
The ship is beautiful.
The entertainment never stops.
And the service is genuinely impressive.
More importantly…
This became one of the most meaningful cruises my mom and I have shared.
Celebrating her birthday and Mother’s Day onboard added something you can’t measure with scores.
And that’s what pushed this cruise from “really good” to something much more personal.
Bottom Line
With the right deal—and especially with perks included—this ship is absolutely worth booking.
It may not top ships like Oasis of the Seas or Disney Dream in my personal rankings, but it firmly reminded me why I enjoy sailing with Norwegian.
And honestly?
I’d go back.
No hesitation.
