Bimini SuperFast Review: One of the Most Unexpectedly Fun Getaways I’ve Ever Taken

Some trips stay with you because they’re luxurious. This trip was in 2014.

Others stay with you because they completely catch you off guard.

This Bimini SuperFast review falls firmly into that second category.

Going into this trip, my expectations were honestly very low. Reviews online were mixed at best, information about the ship was surprisingly limited, and the company itself seemed to still be figuring out what this experience was supposed to be. Between canceled sailings, shifting schedules, and constant operational changes, Resorts World Bimini clearly appeared to be in a testing phase while trying to break into the U.S. getaway market.

And yet…

This ended up becoming one of the most enjoyable short trips I’ve ever taken.

Part of that comes from the destination itself. Bimini is stunning—far more beautiful than many people realize—and because it sits so close to South Florida, the trip feels both exotic and incredibly accessible at the same time.

But a big part of the magic was the journey itself.

There’s something genuinely exciting about boarding a high-speed vessel in Florida and arriving in the Bahamas just a couple of hours later.

It doesn’t feel like transportation.

It feels like an adventure.

Quick Verdict

Best for:

  • Quick Bahamas getaways
  • South Florida residents
  • Weekend travelers
  • Couples and friends
  • Travelers wanting a “mini-cruise” atmosphere
  • Day-trip adventurers

Not ideal for:

  • Travelers expecting a full traditional cruise experience
  • Guests wanting lots of onboard entertainment
  • Luxury-focused cruisers
  • People seeking long resort stays

What Is Bimini SuperFast?

For those unfamiliar, Bimini SuperFast was a high-speed ferry/cruise hybrid operating between South Florida and Bimini.

Originally a European vessel, it was repurposed for Bahamas service under Resorts World. Traveling at around 29 knots, the crossing from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini took roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes during our trip.

And honestly—it flew by.

Before we knew it, we were already pulling into crystal-clear Bahamian waters.

Booking Experience & Growing Pains

If there’s one thing this Bimini SuperFast review needs to be honest about, it’s this:

The operation felt… unstable at times.

We originally booked a Thanksgiving sailing for around $160 per person. Shortly after, prices dropped significantly through promotions. Then, just weeks before departure, the sailing was canceled with very little explanation or useful support.

That part was frustrating.

But then things took a turn.

We found a last-minute Veterans Day promotion for $25 per person, and within two days, we were suddenly booked again.

At that point, the chaos almost became part of the experience.

It was clear the company was experimenting—adjusting routes, pricing, and schedules in real time.

The Ship Experience

Let’s set expectations clearly:

This is not a traditional cruise ship.

There are no pools, no massive atriums, no endless attractions.

And honestly?

That’s perfectly fine.

Because the ship does exactly what it’s supposed to do—get you to Bimini quickly and comfortably.

The vessel was spotless during our sailing, and the crew constantly cleaned public areas. Despite being a converted ferry, it felt far more pleasant than expected.

Dining options included:

  • Buffet
  • Casual counters
  • Bars
  • Full-service restaurant

Prices were reasonable, and the food we tried was genuinely good.

Service was another surprise.

Crew members felt professional, attentive, and very comparable to what you’d expect on a mainstream cruise line.

There was even a cruise director helping keep energy up during the crossing, especially around the outdoor decks.

For those wanting to rest, day-use cabins were available—which is a smart addition for a ferry-style experience.

The Real Star: Resorts World Bimini

As good as the ship was…

The real highlight of this entire Bimini SuperFast review is the destination itself.

Bimini completely exceeded my expectations.

It quickly became one of my favorite Bahamian destinations—right up there with Castaway Cay.

The resort felt spacious, relaxing, and surprisingly upscale considering how close it is to Florida.

The pools looked like something out of a luxury Miami resort—honestly rivaling properties like the W South Beach or The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne.

The casino was massive and visually impressive.

The property included:

  • Multiple restaurants
  • Marina
  • Shopping areas
  • Beach access
  • Open, walkable layout

Pro tip: Rent a golf cart.

It completely transforms the experience by letting you explore both the resort and the local town at your own pace.

Exploring Local Bimini

The local town is much more modest than the resort areas.

Like many Caribbean destinations, there is visible poverty, and it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings. Police presence was noticeable in tourist areas, but basic caution is still smart.

That said…

The food alone makes it worth the visit.

The conch fritters and fresh conch salad were some of the best I’ve had anywhere in the Bahamas.

Pools, Beach & Atmosphere

The resort pools were excellent—clean, spacious, and genuinely relaxing.

The beach itself was beautiful, although conditions during our visit were a bit rough. Most likely weather-related.

A nice bonus: many water toys and beach activities were included, adding real value.

Overall, the island felt far more relaxed and uncrowded than larger Bahamian destinations.

The Biggest Issue: Identity

The biggest challenge with Bimini SuperFast wasn’t the ship.

It was the concept.

What exactly is this?

  • A ferry?
  • A mini-cruise?
  • A casino run?
  • A resort transfer?

At the time, Resorts World clearly hadn’t fully decided.

Some later overnight itineraries felt awkward, with poorly timed arrivals and departures that didn’t maximize the island experience.

But the original day-trip concept?

That worked.

At around $100, it felt like an incredible value.

Final Verdict: Is Bimini SuperFast Worth It?

Yes—absolutely.

In fact, this ended up being one of the most unexpectedly enjoyable trips I’ve taken.

No, it’s not a traditional cruise.

And no, the ship itself isn’t packed with endless amenities.

But that’s not the point.

The value comes from:

  • The fast, exciting crossing
  • The unique “mini-cruise” feel
  • The surprisingly beautiful destination

And maybe most importantly…

The journey itself.

Flying to Bimini wouldn’t feel the same.

Arriving by sea—watching the water change colors as you approach the island—that’s what makes it special.

Bottom Line

This Bimini SuperFast review comes down to one simple truth:

It’s not perfect—but it’s memorable.

And sometimes, that matters a lot more.

Because long after the trip ended…

That’s the part I still think about.
